  • Welcome to our dining area! Or should we say dining areas? :D While renovating our home, we knew right away that a space to host large groups of friends and families was important. However, because the Mr enjoys cooking and was firm on having a clear demarcation of dry and wet kitchen, we had to be creative in carving out space for our dining area. Our first go-to spot for our dinners is the balcony! Our balcony faces a landed estate which allows us to have unblocked views of the sky and sunsets daily. When it's just the two of us, we enjoy having a simple meal by the balcony, enjoying the sunset; it is the perfect budget-friendly date location for us.
  • While the balcony has great views, it also has its cons. In our estate, the air-conditioner compressors cannot be installed on the exterior of the building. As such our compressors are in our balcony itself and this limits its use when we turn on the air-conditioners in other parts of the home. This thus brings us to dining area #2- the stairway! When hosting big groups of guests, we like to bring our transformer table out to the stairway; this space can accommodate up to 10 pax and is perfect when we host large groups of guests like our families.
  • Here is a photo of how the transformer table looks like mid-assembly (Yes, the bench is extendable too!) This transformer table is made of solid wood, and can hold up to 12 pax. When not in use, it can be compressed to just a 2-seater (you can reference this from the first picture we took in our balcony)
  • Last but not least - our dry kitchen cum dining space. This was originally intended to be the dining room but because Mr wanted a long island instead (pun unintended haha!), we could no longer fit a dining table. No biggie because this has now turned into the most popular spot when our friends come over. With the island as the central of the space, there is ample space for everyone to gather and move around to enjoy the meals over heartfelt conversations. In fact - when we host really large groups (our families can go up to 20 pax at times), we utilise both the stairway configuration and the island! So yes, no fixed dining area in this HDB Maisonette, but ample space for dining. After all, the important part of every meal is the company :D
