Options, options, options. When we first saw the original HDB layout for the bathroom, many options came to mind. What theme do we want? What tiles should we use? How do we link this to the rest of the house - yes, the toilet matters too. We decided to use Peranakan-inspired motifs to overlay the wall visible from outside and overlay the floor tiles because, honestly, the HDB tiles cmi.
There are so many creative ideas online now to replace the toilet bowl tap that HDB provides. We went with the simple wooden cover to flow with the rest of the wood details around the house. It was great to have a durable and timeless design for the cover. We didn’t change the toilet bowl although many friends told us the flushing was not good enough. I guess we have very flushable poop hahaha! On a serious note, the toilet bowl serves its purpose so far and we don’t see the need to replace with another throne that’ll set us back $1000 per seat.
Took a risk here to purchase mirrors from Taobao. We were happy to see that it arrived well protected and in perfect condition, unlike some bowls we had purchased.
We saw these taps in Bali once and toyed with the idea to have a waterfall tap, but the ones in Singapore were crazy expensive. The sink though, was an easy decision to find something that can fit into the rectangular theme with rounded edges.
It started as a funny idea when we went to a Dreamworks event many years before we decided to buy a house. We were like: “Hey! This can be in our toilet. They will look at you while you are pooping” LOL!
Swing and slide seems like a natural choice because the traditional swing doors will not fit the size of HDB toilets these days. Either that or a sliding door but that will eat into the wall space. And the common toilet just doesn’t have much space to fit a sliding door. Some cons about the louvered door, it’s not very sound proof. Iykyk
Some hindsight on the master bath, we should have done much more to it. Biggest regret here was not changing the floor tiles. They. Are. Not. Good. Trust us!
