With more than 70,000 happy customers in the three years since its founding, it’s definitely a success story in proving that there is indeed a market segment for furniture to go fully online.

Online furniture retailer HipVan opened its permanent 11,000 sq ft flagship store at The Cathay in Dhoby Ghaut. The store is seven times larger than HipVan's previous pop-up space in Millenia Walk and Suntec City. It features more than 1,000 of HipVan's bestsellers, including beds, dining tables and rugs. Its website attracts 200,000 to 300,000 views a month, while revenue has been growing by 12 per cent on average every month.

HipVan decided to put extra-thick pocket springs into its mattresses - for firmer support. Prices range from $390 for a single-sized. Sleep model mattress to $1,450 for a king-sized Levitate model mattress. Since the launch of its mattress line, HipVan has sold more than 1,000 mattresses, which can be returned within 100 days. However, Mr Danny Tan, HipVan's founder, says no one has made a return yet.
