  • Welcome in! We're Bishanhomies, and we're first-time homeowners nesting in a 26 year old 4rm resale in (you guessed it) Bishan. We have a rather unique layout that we've come to love, and it's our honour to show you around! Designing our home was such a fun process for us, and writing this post brought back so many fond memories. There is so much we want to share, we would love for you to stick around and hear them all!
  • Let’s talk floorplan! One unique feature of our house is the 2 funky diagonals in our kitchen and living room. In Feng Shui, this was considered less ideal as it creates a ‘funnel’ with our main door being the spout, and it could be interpreted as ‘good juju flowing out of the house’. Though we are not big believers in Feng Shui, we took the advice to build an obstruction in our living room to minimize this funnel effect.
  • Spot the difference! Happy to say that it turned out pretty well for us. We hacked down our original storeroom to create more space in the living room, and we built a new store at the entrance. Doing this helped us reduce the awkward diagonal in our living room, giving us a big storage cabinet (yay organization!!!) in our entryway + a pretty sizable store room! In total, we spent about SGD 100k to transform our home into what it is today. Some notable components that made up this figure includes hacking and relaying the floor tiles around our home, building the new store, and rewiring our electrical points.
  • This is the very first render we received from our ID. We were originally on Team 'Japandi' when we first started our design process, but the minute we saw this render, we quickly realized that light wood tones were not for us hahha.
  • This is our actual living room now! We went for darker wood tones. At this point, we're just going with the flow and all design rules or guidelines are thrown out the window. (I mean, for starters... why are there 3 Pooh plushies in 1 area???)
  • This TV console has got to be the most special piece of furniture in our home. We customized this console from Redhouse Antiques & Customized Furniture at Tan Boon Liat. We loved visiting the store - the owner was sooooo friendly and their pieces are truly one of a kind!! Though it might look dated to some, we feel that this quaint and oriental look brings a lot more character and charm to our home.
  • If I had to choose a favourite corner, it's got to be this corner. My plant babies make me so happy! Would also like to give our wall clock some screen time - we painstakingly brought this home from Kyoto! It was such a dramatic process, it's definitely a story for another day. (Fun fact, I struggle with reading analogue clocks, this is purely decorative)
  • Can you find the entrance to our store room? Behind this feature wall is our store room , and we're so satisfied with how it turned out. Thankful we built it with carpentry rather than going with a partition wall!
  • Ah yes, another corner with more of our collectibles... (Who gave these 2 kids adult money?!?!??!????) This was where the old store room stood. The niche was part of the store room, and we repurposed the awkward niche into our wifi set up corner and used the other shelves to store other items. We're always on the lookout for better ideas to style this space - hit us up if you have any suggestions!
  • The master bedroom was one of the areas where we made the most revisions to - it was almost as big as the common rooms & the placement of the door, toilet, windows restricted us from experimenting with too many different layouts. Thankfully, we were able to make it work. Some non-negotiables for us include: - TV - Vanity area - SUFFICIENT STORAGE!!!
  • Apart from our wardrobe + vanity set up, we also made sure to build a ton of drawers (ok, just 9 drawers). The drawers doubled up as our TV console for the bedroom and it worked out perfectly.
  • Mr.Homie gets his own bedside set up as well so it's fair for the both of us. (Don't tell him I told you this, but there's nothing in the locker. It's purely for the #aesthetics)
  • We'll end the tour with a snippet of our kitchen for now. We spend so much time in the kitchen that it deserves it's own post! For now, thank you for joining us and see you soon!
