Our Dining Space: Where everything happens (even a fish tank!)

Welcome to our dining room! It is the place with the highest traffic. We gather here for meals, play board games with friends, and perform maintenance of our fish tank! Needless to say, it needed to be a place that is easily accessible, customisable, and hardy. 
We knew our dining space needed to fulfil the following: - Extendable: We love hosting friends and playing board games, but we did not want a big table that would make it difficult to access our kitchen daily. An extendable table was the solution! - Hardy: While we love the look of marble slab or suar wood tables, we knew our heart would break if we accidentally spilled something and were unable to clean it off! Hence, we went with a sintered stone table instead. Did you know they are non-porous, stain-resistant, and can withstand high levels of heat? These days I don't even use my cork board coasters for my piping hot pots or baking trays! - Aesthetics: Of course, we wanted a nice looking table that fits in with the rest of our home. We picked this table because our kitchen counter had a similar marbling pattern, and a white colour to give our dining space a pop of brightness! We also liked the thin legs so that our dining space could seem more spacious. A view from above our dining table, not extended yet. We wanted an extendable table that showed its continuous marbling when extended, since we would only extend it when we have guests over! It is 1.4m and can extend to 1.8m. At 1.4m it comfortably fits 6 people, and at 1.8m it comfortably fits 8 people. 
Our dining table, now extended! I love the fact that the marbling is continuous :) By the way, our table together with the 4 chairs were bought from Wynn Living for $1,600! You could probably find cheaper options online, but I prefer to buy my furniture in person so I can get a feel of them. 
We also customised a shelving area with a niche to fit a 90cm fish tank! The tank is currently in the process of cycling, so we do not have any fish yet. Our shelving area is made of marine grade wood, so that it can better withstand the humidity from the water. We decided to place a fish tank here so that we could have something to look at while dining! It also creates a more lively yet relaxing atmosphere in our home. One time, my husband and I just stood here for 10 minutes looking at the shrimp mill around. We also asked for our ID to create a flap to hide all the mess that goes on at the top of the tank. It has made our initial aquascaping extremely difficult (because of the small space we have to plant all our plants) but I think hiding the visual clutter makes it worth it! A close up of one of our little inhabitants! We also had to think very hard about where to put our appliances! Initially, we wanted to have a built in oven right beside our fish tank area, but we realised that the heat from the oven may heat up the tank too much (poor fishies!). So we had to settle with putting it lower down. We wanted make our kitchen look bigger, so we used the same tile across our kitchen and dining area. We also absolutely love the terracotta look. It was quite a leap of faith, I was a little worried it would be "too much", but NO REGRETS! My heart feels warm when stepping into the kitchen. However, do take note terracotta tiles are very difficult to maintain. We went with porcelain tiles that have a "worn" terracotta look. Also, we could not resist the curve aesthetic that is all the rage now! 
Last but not least, we really wanted to be able to watch TV from the dining area xD Some food for thought when deciding which wall you would want to mount your TV! That's all for my dining room, if you have any questions I'd be happy to answer!
