  • One of our focus was to optimise living space in our home. One of our challenges was the limited space between our dining area and Bedroom 3. We had to compromise our desired table length of 1.7 meters to make it work. After searching extensively through furniture shops in Singapore, we still couldn’t find a suitable option. The space constraints meant that tables with sharp corners were out of the question, as they would make navigating the tight space more difficult and potentially unsafe. We decided to try Taobao for the first time. To our delight, we found a table that met all our criteria. The only thing that we must tolerate is the longer lead time to ship our table from Taobao. It took more than a month to deliver, and our study desks had to double as dining table during the interim period.
  • Our ideal dining table from Taobao features rounded corners, enhancing safety and ease of movement. The surface is made of sintered stone, which is durable and can withstand scratches and heat. Additionally, it has a fluted panel in a cream color that blends beautifully with our home’s theme.
  • Although our interior designer initially suggested a table size of 1.5 meters, we opted for a 1.6-meter length, providing a bit more room without overwhelming the whole living space.
  • For new homeowners or anyone considering a new dining table, here are some essential criteria to consider: 1. Size · Ensure the table fits comfortably in your dining area, with enough space for chairs and movement around it. Measure the space carefully to avoid crowding and ensure ease of access. 2. Shape · Rectangular: Traditional and versatile, best for longer rooms. · Round: Great for smaller spaces and encourages conversation. · Square: Ideal for square rooms and smaller gatherings. · Oval: Similar benefits to round tables but can fit more people. 3. Material · Wood: Classic and durable. Consider hardwoods like oak, walnut, or maple. · Glass: Modern and visually lighter, but requires regular cleaning. · Metal: Industrial look, durable, and easy to clean. · Marble: Elegant but heavy and requires maintenance to prevent stains. 4. Style · Choose a style that complements your home decor, whether it's traditional, modern, rustic, or eclectic. · Consider the finish and color to match your existing furniture. 5. Functionality · Consider extendable tables if you need flexibility for different group sizes. 6. Maintenance · Choose a material that suits your lifestyle and maintenance preferences. For example, glass and marble require more upkeep than wood or metal. 7. Budget · Determine your budget and look for the best quality within that range. Remember that a dining table is often a long-term investment. The only recommendation from us is to avoid dining table which is made of MDF wood. MDF tables are relatively cheaper but the engineered wood is made using adhesives and resins that can emit formaldehyde, a volatile organic compound (VOC) that can affect indoor air quality. This is a health consideration, especially in a space where people dine and spend leisure time. We hope these criteria helps you in selecting the dining table that you desire. From our experience, with a bit of patience and careful consideration, you can find the perfect piece to suit your home. If you like our table, feel free to DM us, and we can share the link with you.
