  • In this post, we're sharing our master bedroom and the choices we made to ensure restful nights, every night! Moving into our own home from our parents’ place and realizing that the master bedroom was ours made us appreciate how far we’ve come and the new responsibilities of owning a home. We knew that space planning was paramount, so we decided to break down the dividing wall between our master bedroom and the middle bedroom. We shifted the wall backwards and rebuilt it, integrating our wardrobe into the wall. This maintained the original space of the master bedroom while still allowing the middle room to fit a single bed neatly.
  • With the wall pushed back into the middle bedroom, our wardrobe now sits flush with the wall, allowing the room to retain its spaciousness.
  • With limited space already and odd corners in the room, we built a niche storage shelf for our bags and a space to hold things as we head into the shower.
  • When choosing paint colours for our home, we opted for neutral tones to enhance the ample natural light and create a more spacious feel, so for the master bedroom, which holds special significance in every home, we wanted a unique identifier. We chose to paint a half wall in our favourite shade of green.
  • For lighting we wanted both warm and white light but were very against any type of 3 colour bulbs that required multiple taps of the switch to change the bulb tone. So we installed LED stips across the corner of each room to ensure even lighting and a very cool light strip. The typical cove lighting was not ideal as well since it required a false ceiling (which meant additional costs) and potential hiding spots for unwanted pests or dust. More importantly with proper planning of our electricals, this makes replacement DIY-able!
  • We've never preferred direct lighting because it never illuminates the room evenly and causes objects to cast unsightly shadows. That's why we chose a ceiling light with a diffusing ring, which evenly brightens the room and softens any shadows.
  • Our home enjoys the luxury of morning sunlight, so having blackout curtains in all the bedrooms was essential. We experienced the importance of this firsthand when your curtain installations were delayed by two weeks. We were awakened by the blinding sunshine, which was not ideal, especially on weekends. Thankfully, our supplier was very understanding and promptly installed temporary curtains after we provided feedback!
  • The bed frame and mattress are undeniably the most crucial elements of any bedroom. We wanted a frame without space underneath for dust to gather or items to get lost, which is why we instantly fell in love with Castlery’s Joseph Bed. For the mattress, we chose Slumberland, a brand our family has always relied on and trusts for its longevity and comfort.
  • Every bedroom is a personal sanctuary, and choosing the right layout and furniture can create an atmosphere of comfort and relaxation for you and your loved ones. Sweet dreams our fellow homeowners!
