Wabi Sabi: The Japanese Art of Impermanence What does wabi sabi mean? wabi refers to "less is more", and sabi refers to "attentive melancholy" when combined, it refers to an awareness of the transient nature of earthly things and a corresponding pleasure in the things that bear the mark of this impermanence We designed our entryway to capture the essence of wabi-sabi through the beauty in simplicity 
Just behind our main door, from left to right, we have our dustbin & recycling bin - both of which were purchased from Taobao. We limewashed our walls ourselves, and the final limewash colour turned out looking almost the same as the microcement laminate we used for our carpentry. The built-in carpentry you see on the right side of the photo is an upgraded version of the DB box HDB provided us - we extended it slightly so we could use it as a shoe cabinet, and to hide our routers, modems etc. 
We have been enjoying this hands-free 28L dustbin that we got from Taobao! It is inbuilt with a motion sensor so the lid opens up automatically when you wave your hand above the lid! The lid automatically closes after ~5 secs If you need the lid to be opened up for a longer period of time, simply press the button above the AKBK logo and the lid stays up for a minute! We feel the capacity of this bin is perfect for us as we only have to empty the contents once every few weeks. Moreover, we're also able to fit a full load of trash easily into our estate's central chute with no issues too! Beside our dustbin, we have a bin which is purely for recycling. This bin is 42L and it is made of 3 layers: the top layer consists of 2 bins side-by-side and we store recyclable skincare bottles in one bin, and other recyclables we can throw into our estate's recycling bin in the other. In the centre section, we store spare plastic bags for our dustbins. In the lower section, we store recyclable mailing packaging and bubble wrap - which we would then recycle with Package Pals! This bin comes with wheels attached, so we're able to wheel it to other areas of our house if necessary!
