  • Welcome to our main bedroom! Every corner of the bedroom was designed to cue sleepy, sleepy, sleepy feelings. Grey, dark tones and organic textures recreate the sensation of descending further and further into a cave... An apt metaphor for sleep. The bed itself is a very old storage bed that we upcycled from our previous place. We ripped out the headboard and just continued using the bottom. Saving where we can!
  • We planned around all the things we usually do or use while in bed, and designated places for them. Next to the bedside is a powerpoint with USB and USB-C ports for charging phones, and the light switch. That little clasp is a cable organizer that keeps wires tidy when not in use. One of the best products I've ever bought - useful, looks good, and the action of tucking away the wire is surprising tactile delight. At the side of the bedhead, out of sight, is a tiny nook that hides away the A/C and fan remotes.
  • Eclipse lighting in concrete material adds to the mysterious Japanese feel. The dark moody colour of our SOJAO bedsheets matches the lighting and really adds to the cave atmosphere.
  • At night, the eclipse lighting visually evokes the moon to signal sleep. The lighting is dim and moody, creating a very conducive atmosphere for getting drowsy. We love our day and night curtains from End Curtain - the organic linen texture suits the bedroom so well.
  • Facing the bed is our four-door IKEA wardrobe. The doors feature a sliding rice-paper design in line with the Japanese theme.
  • A concealed door leads to the main toilet. Our doors are the original ones from when the maisonette was built in 1983. Our contractor restored it, gave it an oil stain, and we added some clothes hooks. A louvre window opens up into the stairwell for light and ventilation.
  • From the stairwell, the bedroom indeed looks cosy and inviting... beckoning you in to sleeeeep.
