  • Hi everyone! I'm Javihn, an interior designer! Today, I will breakdown the elements to modern Japandi design for homeowners to better understand how to get this look. x MASTERS x 3 elements that I love to propose for the couple's room I. Ambience / Night lighting. Create 1-2 ambience lighting where you sleep. In this case, we went with a unique wall light and cove above. Warm lighting helps soften the mood, winding down for the day with Netflix. It also help when you need to see at night but dont want to wake your partner! II. Feature wall WORTH ! But go with a more minimalist approach. I feel it is more timeless than most other typical options ( in my opinion ) III. Storage Storage in Condo rooms are quite limited. It was a creative struggle but I manage to create a full height multi purpose storage ( Bedside table x lockable storage for personal items) that blends with the feature wall. Takeaway : Design your storages to blend with your features.
  • x MASTERS x Zooming in to the feature wall If you are open to something more minimalistic, you can try doing a feature wall like this. ( ID terms ) : its called wood beading. Let the lines spacings look random! To finish off - have a tiny shelf for your phone.
  • x MASTERS x Make sure you install wooden support into your partition wall to hold the weight of your TV ! When installing your TV, I highly recommend installing it alittle higher. The middle point of the TV should be 1.4-1.5m from the floor. you can include gentle features like - a small full height display - a slim shelf that doubles for your day to day personal items! Notice how i kept the colors and feels consistent with the feature wall? small tip : keep the colors of your curtains as neutral as possible : stick to grey / brown / beige / off whites for Japandi Themes
  • Accessorise your bathroom - scents - cosmetic trays ( to keep things neat ) Tiling - Consider neutral colors like : Bone / Light grey to keep the gentle vibes consistent throughout the house.
  • Breaking down this kitchen design I Two Primary Colors - Grey + Brown ( through the laminate + table top ) II Accents - You can amplify the kitchen look with some bronze / rose gold / brushed gold tones. In case you're curious about : ( Rose gold handle inlay ). It doubles as both a handle and a design accent. (Credits to the condo. The wet areas were designed by them )
  • I am so proud of how the living hall turned out. Let me break it down so you can do it too. Mounting a TV ALWAYS include wooden support behind a mounted TV. You can rebuild a portion of the partition wall to allow the wire to flow straight down from the TV to the console. TV CONSOLE - GO HIGHER THAN USUAL. 500MM HIGH You wont regret it. You will get deep drawers for your misc stuff. - The reason why the middle compartment of built in tv console is glass is to allow signals to pass through. ok now bringing that idea to Design: - Replace the typical black glass to ( fluted see through panel.) ( PS Yes it cost abit more ) JAPANDI STYLED CEILING - completed with cove lights and recessed lighting - this is too hard to breakdown into layman terms because it is a slightly more complex feature to execute. ( If interested , IG DM at @javihn.inn I can help you do haha ) THE FINAL TOUCHES - recessed groove linings into the wall ( you can see it between the TV and the display cabinet - display cabinet ( NOT a must ! But nice to have ! The thing about display cabinet is do it if you really have things to display. Doesn't have to be proper items. it can be showroom-ish deco ) - Limewash paint. ( if you're going Japandi - try concrete or light beige )
  • ( in my opinion ) keep feature areas to at max 3 materials. In the case of my tv console : Just one colored carpentry and limewash wall. The key trick is : wood detailing. ( fluting / different depths of shelves / cabinet ) to create a gentle vibe of variation in a single color. Finish off with deco.
  • LIMEWASH Choose a gentle color. ( it will never go wrong ) When choosing furniture in a neutral colored home, do not be afraid to choose a color that really pops. ( Have one - two 'pop' furniture / deco ) in this case - i persuaded my homeowners to go with a strong reddish brown sofa to contrast. no regret.
  • If you have a long corridor, you can try dual recessed lighting. cost = cheap easy to maintain. design wise : Try staggering it like I did here. I tell youuuu - if your floor is glossy marble / reflective in nature, the lines of this light feature will bounce right off it. It is really nice.
  • A fluted feature wall that double as a concealed door will never go wrong. But! Heres an alternative idea : try fluting JUST THE DOOR. and let the rest of the wood panelling be plain. It creates a more gentle look.
  • Hidden utility / storeroom
  • x Kids room x PAINTING An alternative to typical feature walls is PAINT! You can try doing a feature like this with regular paint. If you're curious : the dimensions chosen were W100mm paint > W100mm gap ( alternate ). There are so many other ways you can use paint to your advantage. Will share more on my upcoming posts ! FINAL TIP One final tip is restrict your laminate ( color of your carpentry ) choice to max 2-3 across the entire house. It will tie your design together better. Thank you again for checking out this post! Feel free to ask me any questions about this home in the comments section!
