Our open-plan kitchen takes centerstage not only in the apartment unit's layout, but also in our hearts. We really focused on breaking down almost all the walls of the old kitchen area to free up the space. A long, tall counter not only marks the divide from the dining room, but also provides space for our washing machine and dryer, and ample storage. Our kitchen island is strategically positioned in between everything for convenience's sake - kitchen prepwork, rush-hour cereal breakfasts for the kids and late-night suppers are all done here. We like how understated the design is, especially when matched with the hardy, earthy Dekton Umber countertop and the Odd bar stools from Originals. A learning tower is parked at the side to facilitate cooking lessons for our curious kids! And this is our main cooking area where we spend lots of time whipping up family meals! Our parents were initially concerned about cooking fumes but the problem was solved with the effective Franke cooker hood and an open window right next to the stove! Also super in love with our Bertazzoni 60cm hob and Total Steam Oven from its Modern series. They're functional and beautiful! Our LG fridge is parked right next to our kitchen sink for convenience. It's a nifty area but boasts ample space to dry our dishes! Previously, the kitchen sink was situated here. But we decided to build a drinks station here to house our Nespresso, Hydroflux Water Dispenser and a UV sanitiser. We use this area to make coffee in the mornings, and milk for the kids. Hopefully, when the kids grow up, we can get a proper coffee machine! One of our best buys for the kitchen is this Hydroflux water dispenser. We love the colour and sleek design. With three temperatures just for hot water, it's been so convenient to make milk for our kids or cook cup noodles! View from the study into the kitchen. This reveals most of the appliances we have within the space. You'd notice that our wood tiles from the living room continue into this space - tiles are still the best in a wet area like the kitchen! In the original layout, the kitchen was set right next to the main door. We hacked down almost all the walls to free up the space, and shifted the kitchen further in. This major hacking - which also brought up a surprise RC stiffener find - actually caused a slight delay in our renovation process because it took longer to get a permit from HDB. Tip: Please ask your ID or contractor to apply for a renovation permit as early as possible! The updated layout plan showing the new kitchen. You'd also notice that we have carved out storage areas into Bedroom 3. We converted this area into a utility closet, as well as a walk-in pantry! Originally a part of our son's bedroom, this storage area hides a walk-in pantry. We call it our little "mama shop"! We have a ramen library on the top shelf, followed by condiments, bottled sauces and canned goods on the second shelf. It's also spacious enough to house our Kadeka toaster for fuss-free breakfasts. Our kids love their very own snack drawer - always filled to the brim with their favourite treats - and find it super fun to push their shopping cart to "shop" for snacks. Here's a close-up of the pantry! This is probably the happiest little spot in our kitchen!
