  • Welcome to the service yard which has now become part of the kitchen! We hacked away the service yard doors so that we can extend the kitchen. In place of the doors, we built a broom closet to store...well, brooms, haha! And a whole bunch of other home cleaning items like table cloths and liquid detergent. Between that broom closet and the window, we measured a space that is just right for the washing machine (no dryer, because we chose to go with an automatic laundry rack system - Steigen, that has hot air function to help expedite the "natural" drying process). I especially love the Samsung Washing Machine we got, because I only need to load in the washing detergent and softener once a month, because it has an AI feature to weigh the load of the laundry and dispense the right amount of detergent required for each wash. Above the washing machine we also have 2 laundry baskets, which we painstakingly brought back from K-Mart when we had our trip to Perth, Australia last December. We got 2 baskets, so we can separate the coloured and white clothing. I knew i definitely wanted to segregate my laundry, after an incident where a red skirt dyed my white polo shirt PINK! :(
  • And on the opposite side, we have a dedicated spot for our Deame 10s Ultra, which has both a vacuum and mop function. The best thing about this appliance is that it is also self-cleaning. That means i do not need to wring dry or wash the mop pads after each cleaning session, and I only need to clear the dust bag (located in the base station) once every few months. It has been 2-3 months of usage, and we changed recently just changed the dust bag. This appliance is a LIFE SAVER! Highly highly recommend it! Though the initial investment is a little high, but it is one of the most used item in our home. We run this twice a day - because we have a dog that sheds a lot and our estate is still pretty dusty with all the renovations still ongoing.
  • Last but not least, in our service yard we have yet another dedicated spot for...HANGERS! My mum used to put all of her hangers in those pull out drawers, and they would all be randomly placed and "tangled" up with one another. That really got on my nerves. As I follow a bunch of home owners on Instagram, one of them had this system set-up in their service yard as well. IT WAS AN AWESOME IDEA and i immediately screenshot this and asked my ID to incorporate this. Having this rod fixed into the pull out drawer in the service yard, made it super convenient when we unload freshly washed clothing from the washing machine. We would grab a t-shirt for example on 1 hand, and a hanger on the other right from the drawer. Once the hanger is on, we put it right onto the steigen rack, which already has hanger holes. This is super convenient, as when the clothes are dry. We can immediately transport them to the spare room for steam ironing. The hangers being already on the clothes, make this chore so much more convenient.
