Our island is definitely one of the most talked about thing in our house. The height and placement orientation of the island made our island seem a tad bit more unique than just another dining table
Aside being one of thing main focal point in our dining room upon entry into the house, it’s also a spot guests tend to gather around. The island connects the living and dining space, bridging the 2 zones.
We had it made in accordance to all the counter heights at home, 95cm. We wanted a space where it feels multifunctional, not just for dining, but also a work desk, coffee bench, food prep area, delivery package sorting area etc.
At some point we did considered having kompacplus installed as the island table top. But we liked how the Linen white laminate looked and decided to shelve the idea. That being said, having a laminate top means higher maintenance as laminate is not as durable as kompacplus.
We made sure we always use coasters for any cookware placed on the island. Like everything else in the house, we kept the colors of our little trinkets in unison too.

Measuring 89cm x 180cm, our island could comfortably sit 3 person on one side if required; hosting omakase mode available any time. We chose only to have 4 chairs (2 cm each side) to make it look less clustered since its only the 2 of us at home for most of the time. Fun fact: our island is 89cm because our carpentry was not able to fit the island in the lift which measures at 90cm.
We decided early on we wanted a dry pantry at home. In this zone right next our island we could brew coffee to our heart’s content. Cabinets underneath are stocked with snacks, one of our favourite thing to do is to tell guests to self help themselves to make their drinks and snacks choice when they come over.
No prize in guessing what is the go to beverage of choice in this household. It is almost a therapy for cin every morning.
LED lights underneaths the racks enhances this space, no prizes in guessing which cafes/bbt shops we got inspired by. 🤭
