  • As we hardly (and don't quite know how to) cook, we didn’t put too much thought into our kitchen during renovation, thinking it would be underutilized. After moving in for over a year, it turns out that having your own home does make you use the kitchen way more than expected! 😅 One year on, we definitely have some reno regrets and things we wish we had planned better. Here’s what we would have done differently! ⬇️
  • Reno Regret #1: Poor Countertop Organization & Storage Planning While having ample counter space gives us room to work, it also means more visual clutter 😩. We should have thought ahead about switch placements, kitchen roll holders, utensil storage, and more—so they could be built into our kitchen carpentry for a sleeker, more organized look. Instead, these items now sit on our countertops, and we're now hunting for off-the-shelf organization solutions to keep things tidy.
  • We really wish we had planned better to hide our switches and cables so they make the space look less cluttered. But for now, we’re making the best of it by adding a bit of fun with cute figurines! 🤭
  • Reno Regret #2: White Marble Quartz Countertop We still love the timeless look of a white marble countertop and backsplash—but not the maintenance (or when we slack on it 🙃). The porous quartz material + white color means stains show up easily and can be tough to remove if left unchecked. You can already see some coffee stains that we couldn't remove in the photo! If we could do it over, we’d probably go for something more stain-resistant and low-maintenance, like sintered stone.
  • Reno Regret #3: Double Bowl Kitchen Sink This one’s a minor regret, but it pops up time to time when we’re hosting and have lots of dishes to do! 😵‍💫 While a double bowl sink helps keep things separated well, we sometimes wish we had one large single sink to handle high volumes of dishes or to make washing larger pots and pans easier.
  • Reno Regret #4: Open Appliance Storage Without Pull-Outs We designed a niche to store frequently used appliances and everyday items. We do appreciate the easy access and how it adds visual interest compared to full closed cabinets. But open shelves also mean constant tidying to avoid visual clutter. 😩 In hindsight, we also wonder if having pull-out shelves would’ve been the smarter choice! That way, we could slide appliances out when in use, preventing heat damage to the laminates.
  • Thankfully, our masters aren’t too fussed about our kitchen boo-boos… as long as their food gets served on time! 😹🍽️🐾 Priorities, right?
