  • A non-typical HDB/BTO entryway - in fact this entryway is not typical of apartment living as we wanted to bring in the landed home feel into our home.
  • Upon entering the home, you will have to step through a 5 stone slab walkway, with small to medium size white pebbles filling out the empty spots. Whenever I have new guests coming over or even delivery personnels who look into my home, they are always surprised to see this design in an apartment.
  • As the entryway was not in the original BTO layout, we had to build a wall up (behind the shoe cabinet) to create this space. What I like about this is the added privacy it gives us, as passersby or delivery personnel cannot look into our home easily. And with this entryway space carved out, we are able to lead our guests (and our) line of sight to the wide common area we created the moment they enter. Giving the illusion that our small 4 room BTO is larger than it actually is.
  • Could you tell before seeing this photo that the bombshelter is hidden behind these cabinetry doors? Most of my guests couldn’t and they were pleasantly surprised. Visually, the bombshelter did not blend in with the look and feel we wanted for our home. So we gladly concealed it behind these doors which uses the same laminate that we used throughout the house.
  • And here’s the mirror I mentioned. It’s great not just for checking ourselves out, but also gives the illusion that the entryway is larger and that we have way more pebbles than we actually do! There's also extra storage with fluted panel design here, which we use to store foldable umbrellas. This is also a temporary space where we put any small parcels we've received. We leave a small cutter with a liquid that can get rid of our personal delivery details on this floating shelf.
  • This newly erected wall here is the first place anyone would see, apart from the floor. So this is the best spot to set the mood of the home with the right furniture and decor pieces. And we also set the mood not just visually but with home fragrances such as candles and reed diffusers. We chose a neutral coloured large wall painting to fill up the empty wall space above the shoe cabinet. The painting was initially a vertical piece but we needed a horizontal piece to fill the space, keeping it proportionate to the width of the shoe cabinet. So we flipped it and somehow it looks like the white wash of the sea entering our home. We are not fengshui followers, but water flowing into our home should mean something good right! Like a flow of wealth😉
  • I had to source high and low for this shoe cabinet. There were many similar options available in stores in Singapore for >$1500 and that was way out of our budget. We eventually found this one on Taobao, and it was the best purchase ever. Can you tell this shoe cabinet is >100kg (empty) and made of solid wood. The size of the cabinet works for 2 of us right now!
  • There’s also a drawer at the top of the cabinet which we use for storing socks. The flow makes a lot of sense to us. We can get our socks and shoes at the same spot.
  • There is also another 2 more hidden storage in this space. We knew the shoe cabinet would block off the opening of the cabinet, so we specifically asked our ID to do a 2 door opening - based on the height of the shoe cabinet. The lower cabinet is for items we hardly use, while the top cabinet is used to store board games as we love to host our friends.
