Welcome to our open concept kitchen! We know the risk of taking white for the cabinets. We chose glossy surface so it's easy to clean. As for the backsplash, we clean every time after we cook. That's how we maintain our kitchen. We didn't think twice about hacking the kitchen wall. Never regretted at all. This is when the wiring starts. No turning back! 
I've always wanted an island in the kitchen. It's so easy to prepare food with an island in the middle. No built in ovens! We brought our old ovens which were given to us from our parents. We choose not to have any drawer pulls or cabinet knobs. It looks clean and neat like this. 5 years ago we invested in the 3M water dispenser. Nowadays water dispensers look small and stylish. Also never took up space like ours. Maybe we might change to a smaller one if ours no longer can be used. I remember reading somewhere about the triangle rule. The sink, the hob and the refrigerator. They should be about four feet long. Call it 3x4 rule.
