  • Welcome to the living room of our 5-room BTO flat! This is where we spend most of our time with our kids and where friends and family can chill when they visit. Hence, we wanted it to look bright, spacious and cosy right from the start :) Sharing some tips on how we achieved the look of our dream living room! 🌟 Neutral earthy tones As we were going for the modern coastal look with bright and airy vibes, we picked crisp whites, earthy and neutral tones for our colour palette - these were reflected in our choice of paint, furniture and decor items such as the sofa, cushions, carpet, coffee table and lounge chairs.
  • 🌟 Unconventional sofa placement Instead of having our sofa face the wall which would have “cut” the living room visually in half (we do not have a TV so this was possible), we placed our sofa against the windows. In doing so, our living room looks more spacious and our kids can have more room to play :) 🌟 Herringbone vinyl flooring We love the beauty of a herringbone lay and how it creates the illusion of a larger space. Although it costs more than a normal lay due to material usage, we decided to go ahead and no regrets :) Chose a light oak design and we love how it adds to the cosy ambience! 🌟 Day curtains To keep the look more minimalist, we chose not to have any night curtains in the living room. Instead, we went with white linen day curtains that stretched from wall to wall. We like how it visually makes our space look wider when the curtains are fully drawn.
  • 🌟 Large wall art We like the idea of having just a single oversized painting on the wall. Found this handpainted piece on Taobao with warm earthy tones that fits our modern coastal theme! Got a handyman on Carousell to help us with the drilling and putting up of this huge art piece. 🌟 Faux olive tree We wanted to have some greenery to bring nature indoors, but we didn’t want real plants as it would be too troublesome for us to maintain. Started our search for a realistic looking olive tree and managed to find this beauty on Taobao! As it came in a small black pot, we decided to buy a larger planter instead. Tip: Put styrofoam/empty boxes at the base and cover the top with coconut husk fibre/artificial moss to make the tree look more real!
  • 🌟 Aesthetic rattan sideboard for storage We needed space in the living room to store the kids’ toys, which had to be easy for them to access on their own. Customised this 2m long rattan sideboard from Taobao and we like how it hides the clutter from sight while looking aesthetic at the same time. We love how our living room makes us feel right at home and hope this post inspires you to create your dream living room too ☺️
